Known for his unconventional journey and hands-on approach to business, Pic’s story is a powerful example of how creativity, resilience, and determination can turn a simple idea into a globally recognised brand. Now living in Marahau with his guide dog Ollie, Pic continues to inspire audiences, sharing honest insights into entrepreneurship, overcoming challenges, and building a business on his own terms, including navigating life and work with failing eyesight.
From Traveller to Founder: A Journey of Resilience & Reinvention
Pic’s early life was anything but traditional — from hitchhiking across America and living in London to joining a commune in Coromandel and learning furniture-making, sailing, and business through experience. His journey reflects a lifelong willingness to adapt, take risks, and reinvent himself, building practical skills and resilience along the way.
Building a Global Brand from a Simple Idea
Pic began making peanut butter in 2007 with no intention of building a large business — just to replace a small weekly income. Starting with a concrete mixer in his garage and selling at local markets, the demand quickly grew. Through persistence, problem-solving, and a strong team, Pic’s Peanut Butter expanded into a large-scale operation producing millions of jars annually and became an iconic New Zealand brand, including the development of Peanut Butter World in Nelson.
